What the job actually includes

The water damage is half the job
People are surprised by this one. Putting a house fire out takes a large volume of water, and that water is still in the drywall, the insulation and the subfloor when the trucks leave.
If it is not extracted and dried, you get mold on top of fire damage. We handle both, which is one of the reasons a company that does water restoration and fire restoration together is worth having.
Soot is not just dirt
Smoke residue is acidic. Left on metal, it corrodes. Left on plastic and finished surfaces, it stains permanently. The window for saving a lot of contents is measured in days, not weeks.
Different fires leave different residues. What burned changes how it has to be cleaned, and using the wrong approach can drive the residue deeper into the surface instead of lifting it.
Odor is the part people underestimate
Smoke odor hides in porous material: insulation, framing, subfloor, the back side of drywall. Cleaning the surfaces and painting over it does not solve it, and you find that out the first hot day when the smell comes back.
Getting it out means finding where it settled and treating or removing that material. It is slower and it is the difference between a house that is repaired and a house that still smells like a fire.
Then we put it back
Framing, drywall, electrical rough-in coordination, flooring, cabinets, trim and paint. Because we hold a B general building classification, the rebuild does not require handing you off to another contractor.

Secure the building
Board-up and tarping first, so weather and anything else stays out while the rest gets sorted.

Water out, structure dried
Extraction and drying equipment, with logged moisture readings, so fire damage does not become mold damage.

Clean and deodorize
Soot removal from structure and contents, then odor treatment at the source rather than over the top of it.

Rebuild
Everything that came out goes back, same license, same company, with documentation for your adjuster throughout.

Can I go in and get my things?
Not until the building has been cleared as safe to enter. Fire damage can compromise structure, and the air inside is usually not something you want to be breathing. Once it is cleared, we can help you get essentials out.
How much of my stuff can be saved?
More than most people expect, if it is handled soon. Soot is acidic and gets harder to remove the longer it sits. We inventory contents, clean what is salvageable and document what is not for your claim.
Will the smoke smell come back?
Not if the odor is treated at its source. It comes back when someone cleans and paints the surfaces without addressing insulation, framing and subfloor that absorbed the smoke. That is the part that takes real work.
Do you handle the insurance claim?
We handle documentation: photos, a scope of what was damaged, contents inventory and a written estimate for the rebuild. We cannot negotiate the claim itself. In California that requires a public adjuster license, and we are contractors.
How long does a fire restoration take?
It ranges widely. A contained kitchen fire might be a few weeks. A fire that reached the structure and required significant rebuild can run months. We will give you a realistic timeline after we have seen the damage, not before.
